The Va’ad Hamishpat was a student-faculty disciplinary committee. It was my honor and privilege to sit as chair of this committee for seventeen years. Our committee heard a range of cases in which we balanced justice and mercy, fairness and equity. Our deliberations were intense and profound. And students then helped to compose a ruling that explained our findings. Students still speak of their experience serving on the Va’ad as the most formative leadership training they ever received.

In 2007, a group of students and faculty gathered to compose a constitution for the Va’ad Hamishpat. That constitution provided a fair and transparent process for hearings and a bill of rights for students who were brought before the Va’ad. Click on the image to see that constitution.
